Number 3 on the Podium...

... But still number one in my pants heart. I’m talking about Kara Goucher (a fellow CU alum), who finished 3rd in the Boston Marathon yesterday. I kept checking in on the race throughout the morning and was thrilled to see her in the lead pack early. As the race wore on, I was even more excited to see her leading the pack, pushing the pace (somewhat) and working to drop some of the other runners off the back. This worked as she eventually whittled the lead pack down to 3 runners but couldn’t hang with Kosgei (the eventual winner) and Tune as they surged past her with 800 meters to go. Kara was visibly upset at finishing 3rd so I thought I’d try to cheer her up by posting a list of things that she finished first in yesterday:
  • Sexiest runner (women’s division).
  • Sexiest runner (overall).
  • Hottest ever application of arm warmers. (Those things have never looked so good.)
  • Only person to ever successfully pull off the black running shoes/black athletic socks combo.
  • Hottest person to ever wear NFL style wide receiver gloves (apparently she had a problem grabbing water bottles in the NYC marathon and this was the solution).
  • Easily beat all runners from rival school NU (ha!) Note: I didn’t research this but I’m pretty sure Kosgei and Tune didn’t go to NU.

Get out of the bike lane!

Oh yeah, I guess some American named Ryan Hall also took 3rd in the Boston Marathon but he suffers the unfortunate fault of not being as hot as Kara. It’s OK Ryan, not many are. Congrats to both runners all the same.

  1. Fellow CU alum...which university is CU?

  2. Well, if Vanilla went there, we know it was not Columbia.

Why does her shirt say "Oregon" then? More Nike global dominance?

  3. Did she get a head start? I thought cheating was the only way anyone from CU could win.

    *cough!* Five downs *cough!*

  4. She even looks pretty good during the run. Not many can pull off the mid-race attraction. Most marathoners look straight out of the Ugly Factory during the race.

  5. Ha, I started in the Ugly Factory and have gone downhill ever since.

  6. She absolutely deserves all of the Vanilla awards listed above.

I'm so going to print out these pictures......for later....

  7. She was even a pretty crier! Lucky bitch.

  8. It's about time running had a star that didn't look nutritionally deprived.

  9. She's mighty hot.

    Adding ... "defenestrate"?

  10. I considered buying arm warmers while watching the marathon. Then I realized she probably looked hot despite the arm warmers, not because of them.

  11. Even I will admit that Kara is hotter than Ryan Hall. I like dudes, but objectively, it's true.

  12. I was skeptical of the armwarmers but I love mine and I have a girl crush on her. GAH. it was only one of her first marathons too. She rocked it . :)

  13. Ha. I almost posted about this today. About how when I began typing "Kara Gouc--" into Google search, it finished for me: "Kara Goucher sexy."

But I'm glad I left the topic to a true authority on such things.

  14. The other women totally mooched off her draft. :(

I am in complete awe of anyone that can run a marathon at a faster pace than I can run just one mile.

  15. She is probably the hottest professional marathon runner. And I like guys. But most of the runner guys are too skinny for me.

And I was wondering what was up with the gloves.

  16. Yeah, I have a girl crush for Kara too. She won me over when she talked about how running was therapy for her after she lost her dad in an accident involving a drunk driver. And, she was only seconds from 1st place, felt really bad for her ...

  17. I saw her on Heartbreak, and yes, she is just as hot in person. I was a bit miffed, though, that she didn't say thanks when I shouted, "Go Kara!"

  18. Lets not forget that she is the cover girl for Runner's Magazine for May 2009.
That's pretty close to winning Boston.
    What a cutie tho!

  19. She's awesome. Her husband is lucky. She will win soon. Ans so will Ryan. America is on the rise.

  20. Seriously! You think she pulled off the "wide receiver" gloves look? Everything else is hot but we might see her on a future episode of "what not to wear" with that glove look.

  21. She could wear a Herb Tarlic leisure suit and still be hot.

    Look at those abs man.

BUT can she swim and bike?

  22. I wholeheartedly second all of your bullet points.
Talk about bringing "awareness" to the sport!

  23. It's too bad hotness can't help her beat a Kenyan.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I guess Kenyan's aren't distracted by hotness. I also watched the race on universalsports.com (awesome coverage!) and found both the men's and women's races interesting. The women's was so slow I thought for sure Kara would win it given that she is not long removed from being a middle distance runner. I did find her a bit over dramatic at the end - it's only your second marathon, girl. Get over it! Ryan Hall's post race comments were much more sane: he said he felt like a rookie, learned a lot, hurt a tonne in the last 10k, and will be back armed with all of that. I expect him to win this race before Kara does. He just seems tougher mentally somehow, even if he's not hotter.

  25. Totally agree...Kara is way hotter than Ryan. He always strikes me as the small weiner type.

    What?

  26. I'm glad CU has a track program, seeing how their football team was disbanded. Right? That's what happened after going 5-7.

  27. I have such a girl crush on her. She did so well but that going to London business was nonsense!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I have a girl crush on her too! Seriously she wears arm warmers like no one I've ever seen haha

  29. Ditto to pretty much everything said so far. I need to get a copy of her core exercise program. Maybe I can find my lost abs. As for Ryan Hall, what the heck was he talking about running being considered 'punishment' here in the US until now/recently. Dude, that was in the 50's before coaches would allow you to drink water during long runs.

  30. Wow, I would never find this kind of hard-hitting journalism on the other running blogs I read. This is much more interesting!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I have to disagree with you on the black socks/black shoes thing. I don't think she pulls it off. Some things are just objectively wrong.

    Having said that, she's awesome.
