Guess Who’s Getting a Free Bike!

You are! Good news fair readers, after countless hours wasted reading the tripe that I write, it is finally going to pay off to be a reader of this fine blog. The generous folks at Lipton have reached out to me and asked me to help promote the launch of their new Lipton White Teas, made from young White Tea buds. In order to do that they are giving away $25,000 through the “Free Your Y” (your Youth) video contest at www.areyouyoungenough.com and also giving a Lipton branded Fuji Crosstown 2.0 bike (retail value $399) to one of the readers of Half-Fast. Despite my best efforts, they would not be persuaded that it was better to give the bike to me in exchange for a product review.

This bike could be yours!

When I first received the e-mail I was excited because I thought that I was getting the free bike, but then I realized that I had to give it away to one of my readers and I was all upset. I mean why should you guys get a free bike? I do all of the work around here, all you do is sit there staring blankly at your monitor with your fingers on the Alt + Tab keys in case your boss walks by. Then I was excited again because it occurred to me I might get some new readers out of this, but then I was all bummed again when I remembered that I’d really prefer a new bike over a few new readers (besides the last thing we need around here is an influx of helmet-wearing, pedal pushers). So you see, it’s been quite an emotional rollercoaster for me, but in the end I decided to give away the bike to one of you lazy readers. In addition to the Fuji Crosstown 2.0 bike (more details here), the winner will also receive 5 coupons for a free 1.5 Liter Bottle of Lipton White Iced Tea and a $75 check for professional bike assembly.

How To Enter
Here’s what you need to do to enter: Now pay attention you knuckleheads because this is complicated. You must leave a comment on THIS POST stating why YOU think YOU deserve the bike OR what you plan to do with it. Go back and read that last sentence louder if you are still confused. Anyone who leaves such a comment on this post between now and 11:59 PM MDT Thursday, May 8th will have their name placed in a hat and on Friday May 9th I’ll draw a name from the hat and announce the winner. If I deem your comment to be one of the better or funnier responses then I’ll put your name in the hat twice to increase your chances of winning. The contest is open to residents of the United States and Canada. Please e-mail me with questions about the contest.

You might have seen this same contest over at Cranky Fitness because Crabby and Merry also hosted a similar bike giveaway but with less insults hurled at their readers. If you missed out on winning that bike, then consider this your second chance because I’m all about second chances here at Half-Fast. Also, don’t forget to check out the Free Your Y video contest which could land you $25,000. Just think of the things you could buy with all that scratch, I bet you could even afford to buy me a new bike.

Disclaimer The Pepsi/Lipton Partnership will provide a check for $75.00 to be used for professional assembly of all Lipton Fuji bicycles awarded. Neither Pepsi Co. nor Unilever is liable for any injuries, damages or accidents that may result from the receipt, assembly or use of this bicycle.

  1. Hi! I'm a new reader to your blog and I totally deserve a new bike! I'm getting married in August and working on getting in better shape before then. My fiance has a rocking bike, but I'm stuck with my two legs to run me around. I'd love to have a bike so that we can ride together!

  2. Hmmm, I guess I could begrudgingly suspend the sarcasm for a free bike. With which, I would ride to the top of Mt. Fuji powered only by my Pepsi cooler filled with Lipton White Tea for a wonderful product placement photo op.

I am suspicious of your intentions however. If a new avatar suddenly pops in here named "Chocolate" from a new blog named "Half-Slow", I'm going to demand an inquiry.

  4. I certainly don't deserve a bike, I'm just a lazy assed old runner.

Maybe once my hips totally tank and I can't run anywhere but to the bathroom (sorry Marcy no BR shot here)....maybe then I'll search for a bike powered by Lipton White Tea!!! Peddle pushers indeed....

    LMAO.....

  5. I'd like the free bike because I think it's important that we, as a society, take the initiative in becoming one with Mother Earth. I'm willing to take that first step in doing so. What better way to do that than by not polluting our precious air while sipping an all-natural beverage.

That, and because it's shiny and yellow.

  6. I going to have to start biking waaaay more (and apparently get a little kiddie trailer thing as well) since gas prices in SoCal are now $4.03/gallon for regular unleaded and I am REALLY bitter about it.

I guess I should just be grateful that my car doesn't take diesel.

So...that's what I'm going to do with it, stop paying for gasoline and ride my bike. As a bonus, maybe I'll finally lose those last 5 baby pounds...

  7. 3 reasons:
    1. The marathon chewed me up and spit me out, but kept my shoes.
    2. So, I will learn to ride a bike.
    3. Alas, I don't own a bike--the last one I had was from Montgomery Ward and sported a banana seat.

  8. F the freekin bike, someone pass out some new kicks already! :P Do I sound deserving enough? LOL

    ReplyDelete
  9. What would I do with a free bike?

I've been thinking about starting a paper route to supplement my weekly allowance. I'm saving up for a Red Ryder bb gun.

  10. Two words: First tri. Wait, I'd have to be able to swim, right?

  11. Hi!

I deserve this snazzy new bike because:
    1. You insult me as a reader, I laugh hysterically, and keep coming back for more. (Oh I'm sorry, you're not giving away free therapy sessions...)
    2. Because the Bay Area has the most expensive gas prices in the nation ($4.45/gal - take that, SoCal!)
    3. Because it's preeeeeeeeeetty.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I deserve that new beauty of a bike because:
    1) I am a poor University student
    2) I don't drive and it takes me 2hrs to get somewhere where I could bike in 20 minutes
    3) I don't have a bike
    and
    4) I have crazyy goals and dreams beyond running, some of which include triathlons (A sport in which you need a bike:P)

  14. Pick me, pick me, pick me

I deserve the bike because ...

I am scared of cycling. I have a fear of falling off and hitting the ground. This would help me get over my fears, thus making the world a better place for everyone.

I love Lipton White Teas, made from young White Tea buds, it is my favorite drink in the world.

Also, I think you are the funniest and best looking blogger in all the land!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Ali - This is why I had to make it a random drawing. I would have already shipped you the bike if it were up to my judgment. Very nice use of flattery, and totally believable.

    ReplyDelete
  16. My poor father loves to ride. So if I won the bike, I could give it to him. But then again, he just had knee surgery and wouldn't be able to ride very soon, so I'd ride it for a while and break it in. Then, I'd probably decide to keep it and give him his old one back.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Damn you and your 'open to residents of the USA and Canada only' competitions.

  18. i actually don't need a bike...but i wanted to tell you i found your blog from ShoreTurtles and i liked your post on running pick-up lines :)

  20. I'm not a new reader, just a new commenter.

I think I deserve the bike because 1. I don't own a bike and 2. I use cycling to cross train for my marathon training and those bikes at the gym are going to give me a venereal disease some day I just know it. (or I'm just THAT paranoid) 3. I'd be willing to wear a t-shirt that says "Vanilla saved my hoo-ha from herpes" at the Chicago Marathon (my first marathon)

I'm a classy gal like that what can I say! :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. I need the bike because it will promote world peace. Er, at least within my bubble when I ride. You see, although I have a snazzy new bike of my own, Boyfriend does not. Boyfriend rides a clunky rusty mountain bike, and because he's a dude, cannot stand the thought of being chicked. (hmm...does this sound familiar?) So, he huffs and puffs and gets all red faced during our rides and manages to keep up with me on my crotch rocket. I would love nothing more than to be able to give him his very own road bike so that he doesn't have to puke his way through our rides. That, and he *claims* he won't enter Triathlons because he doesn't have a road bike, but I think it's cause he's scared of being chicked. Please oh please let me test my hypothesis!

  22. I came here via Marathon Mama who I just found last week while goofing off on the web. Either my daughter or I need a new bike as we both signed up to do a triathlon (her) or duathlon (me) in August and we only have one mountain bike between us. The race is for a good cause--cancer--so we deserve it.

    ReplyDelete
  23. If I win the bike, I'll fill up the water bottle with Meat Water.

    http://dinnerinabottle.com/

    ReplyDelete
  24. If I win the bike, I'd do a triathlon. Oh wait, I'm already doing my first triathlon, but my bike sorta sucks and I'd reallly like a new one and my husband keeps telling me "NO!"

Plus, I'd look pretty darn cute on that bike there. :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. If I won the bike I would give it to Vanilla.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh my goodness. Readers are coming out of the woodwork. :D

I'd love a new bike -- been dreaming about the Triathlon scene but I don't have a decent bike. I trained and did an indoor Tri and loved it, so a bike is on my list. Road work scares me a bit so bright yellow would be nice and visable. Would it help if I said you have great legs?

I'm a fan of Lipton Green Tea but haven't heard of the white yet. Are they working on a rainbow?

Gotta love the Blogger Love that Lipton is showing. Thank you!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Judging from the picture, the first thing I'd do is put pedals on it so I could ride it. Otherwise its not much good, huh?

If I won it, I'd give it to my cousin. He's just getting into triathlons and needs to upgrade from his clunker mountain bike.

*Insert yo-mama joke aimed at Nitmos to get deemed funny and entered twice*

    ReplyDelete
  28. I need a bike because the boston marathon made me hate running, that and it physically abused me to the point where I can't run.

give me the bike to save me from obesity.
otherwise I will sit here studying for finals eating baconators which wendy's brought baaaccckkk

    ReplyDelete
  29. If I won the bike I would put a shiny bow on it and give it to my hubby for his birthday. Why? Because he thinks I am crazy for all this working out that I do. The only way to get him to understand is to get him to taste the endorphins. Once he has his first high then he will be hooked too and we can give the bike back. Or not. Plus, I want to see him in bike shorts.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Wow!
I am going to go the cheesy lane. I want my husband to be ablet to go on rides with me. He would not buy his own bike, but if he got one than I could force him.

I also love Nanc's comment. I believe she would do a tri if given a bike.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I guess all it takes is a contest to get me out of my lurker status- but in all fairness, I have only been lurking for a week or so- I googled running skirt and found you and the man skirt post-ha! Now I can't stay away.

Give me the bike because I would win it on my husband's birthday (May 9th) and could say, "Eat it sucka!" as I pantomime riding away in the sunset on my newly won shiny yellow bike.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Give me the bike so that when I get deported from England for not being able to pay my tuition bill, I'll have a mode of transportation with which to find a job in the states. Also, I can then introduce America to Xtreme stupid English cycling, whereupon I ride on the wrong side of the road, speed carelessly into crowds, and try my damndest to get hit by a moving vehicle.

    ReplyDelete
  33. For humor, Stephanie's comment can't be beat. That's hilarious!

But I'd love a shiny yellow Fuji bike so I can do a triathlon with my daughter next fall. She has a decent bike, and I try in vain to keep up on my old clunker.

That, and the nostalgia factor. It reminds me of my first ten-speed, a yellow Schwinn that I saved up my babysitting money to buy in high school (about 100 years ago). Ah, the memories!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Okay, if you read my post today you will see that I ran up a hill today with 6-8 Marine's in full battle gear running down it. Guns and all. Talk about intimidating

I think it's time for me to pick up another sport so that on days where Marine's are out "protecting" our trails, I have something better to do.

Plus, I've been wanting to pick up the sport. SOOOOO, enter me please!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Because I'm cute and so are you.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'm a runner! Who needs a stinkin' bike? Not me! That's why if I win, I'm going to take the bright, shiny yellow bike, suspend it from the rafters in my garage, give me kids a hammer each and let them have at the bicycle pinata. Kids have fun, mom has fun, we all get to laugh at bikers. It's a win-win-win situation!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hmm... The bike looks really nice... Retails for $399. Wonder how much I could get for it on ebay? Hahaha ;)

    ReplyDelete
  38. I deserve a shiny new yellow bike because I have very short legs and running is hard on those little, itty-bitty legs. Do you know how hard I have to work in order to even come close to everyone else's pace? But on a bike! Well, on a bike, I would be equal since leg length has no speed correlation on the bike.

Thus, by choosing me, you are striking a blow on behalf of the height-challenged all over the globe. You Half-Fast could be a champion of the little people.

    Plus, I'm cute.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I definitely would love this bike! I'd use it to ride to work to save quite a lot of money on gas. It's been so long since I've been on a bike so it would be tons of fun!

I love reading your blog, I've read every single post ever and this is my first comment.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Ooh, me! me!
I deserve a new bike because I always laugh at your jokes and because I always appreciate your wit and charm and extreme good looks and did I mention that I always laugh at your jokes?

    ReplyDelete
  41. I deserve a new bike because I just hit 40mpw and I need a new way of cross training to relieve some of the pounding on my poor legs.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I plan on using this wonderful bike to help make the world a better place in a couple different ways:

    1) reduce my gas consumption (yeah i will ride a lot more to work)

    2) reduce my roadrage (I will be way too tired to flip anyone off and the side roads will be empty anyway)

    3) reduce my waist line (nobody likes a fat biker, especially in those tight spandex things that show male cameltoe lol)

    4) reduce the number of blogs i will read. (I will be forever indebted to you and your site so i will only read your words of wisdom)

I am sure there is more reductions.. but i cant thing of anything at this moment..

Ok and finally.. i beg you karma gods to bestow this wonderful bike on me.. god knows i've been payin into the karma system for a long time..

    thanks for the opportunity!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I deserve this bike to validate my tendency for wearing helmets and tight shorts while drinking Lipton White Tea. I am always eager to act as a shill.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Sincere and funny are hard to combine, so I'm going the sincere route..I would love the bike because I loved riding growing up and I've been dreaming of getting one for a few years but can't afford a decent one (stupid grad student stipend)...this would keep me from being making the silly decision of spending a grand on the custom-made bike I've been thinking about! And yellow is so pretty!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I need a new bike so I can change my name to tri-mom instead of runnermom. I am a mom of three after all. It just makes sense.

    ReplyDelete
  46. A new bike! I'd love it! Wow, that would save me a lot in gas money. Plus, I'm a teacher, so I could ride it to school and lock it up on the bike rack. The kids would be totally impressed. It probably would increase my "cool" quotient by like 100 points.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I deserve to win this bike because I am awesome! Also because I am a new biker and just joined a bike club and I need to look cool.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I would love to win the bike. I am supposed to be buying a bike for my wife for her birthday that is about a month away. This way, I could get a new bike and just give her mine...

    ReplyDelete
  49. I already have a bike collecting dust in my garage, I don't need another one. So if I did win, I'd let you put your address in instead. You could have it. Seriously. You'd just have to agree to visit my blog and leave a comment everyday for a month. Easy!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I don't just need a bike--I need THAT bike. Because I'm pretty that when people see me, red-faced and out of breath, riding that bright yellow bike, they're gonna smile. And so I'll be doing my part to promote World Peace. You get how that all works out, right?

    ReplyDelete
  51. oh, i got a whole host of reasons:

    1. I live in SoCal and near the Bay Area (kindof) so i have shitty gas prices in both places!

    2. but in my (kindofnear) the Bay Area home i don't even have a car, which means my poor little feets do all the walking (i wore through the bottom of my shoes a few weeks ago)

    3. i'm a university student AND my mascot is the banana slug. (give back to the animals is what i'm saying)

    4. i'm all cuddly and cute

    5. i need to lose weight and build up leg muscles.

    6. i am not above bribery *hint hint*

    7. A horse walks into a bar...why the long face? (ok, that's funny to my brother.)

    8. merry sent me. that should get me extra points or something.

    9. i did well on my midterm and deserve a prize (no, an "A" is not a prize)

    10. i'm already working for world peace.

ok, i got more if needed...

    ReplyDelete
  52. Becaues Mothers day is just around the corner and it'll be a great gift from the boys to their mom!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Because then I can find another kind motorist to shove me off that bike :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. I'd really like to win that bike because then I could bike to work and save tons of money on gas (it cost me $52 to fill up my Mini Cooper last week...52! Ouchie!). Also, riding a bike instead of taking a car is better for the environment, resulting in cleaner air for a more enjoyable running (and biking and swimming) experience for all. Lastly, riding a bike would be a great way for me to improve my health (as well as work off all the beer I drank this winter... and uh, spring, too).

    ReplyDelete
  55. I deserve the bike because it is becoming increasingly clear that I'm not built for running. Maybe biking will be better?

Ok ok... I'm not quitting running. But, I still want a new bike.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I would LOVE a new bike!

Last year, I biked in the Nova Scotia MS Bike Tour--the first time I ever biked that far. 48 km on Saturday, and then back again on Sunday. I had so much fun, and I'm going to do it again this year, and it would be awesome to do it on a BRAND NEW BIKE.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I LOVE that bike! I can't think of any reasons why I deserve it but it'd sure be nice to win something, especially somthing that AWESOME!

I haven't ridden an bike on the road since college and I kind of have a fear of being hit by a car, but if I win that bike I will be sure and make good use of it. Then there was that time when I flew right over the handle bars and landed on my butt...

Once I learn how to swim I'll also take up triathlons. My kids will be so proud of their cool mom.
    Also I love Lipton teas!

I especially love your blog! No, seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Your blog leaves me laughing, wanting me to run more, and feeling a little sorry for your wife all at the same time. So here's the deal. My husband is a pedal pusher, I am a runner. He found a mjor parenting loophole. No kids in the trailer for four hour rides over skinny, winding roads, but they will be just fine in the jogging stroller for a 7 mile run around the neighborhood. I'm not actually convinced he rides the whole time. I imagine him sitting in a movie theater in his tight clothes programming the Garmin to make it LOOK like he actually rode somewhere. I promise I will use the bike to escape my children.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Vanilla, I need to win the Lipton tea bike. I have run two half-marathons, and two full marathons, but I am really eager to start taking up duathlons and triathlons. So eager in fact, that I recently borrowed (ok, so the police report may have used the term 'stolen') my 12 year old neighbors neon splatter paint Huffy Mt. Storm. Since I was forced to return it, and let's face it, a child-sized mountain bike isn't the best for competing in duathlons, I am now back at square one. I appreciate you considering me for the free bike.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I don't necessarily deserve this bike, however, I NEED it really bad. A girl's gotta cross-train, right? (or so people keep telling me).

    ReplyDelete
  61. My goodness, it's gotten crowded around here. What kind of tea does this bike make?

    ReplyDelete
  62. I'm not much of a commenter, but I do love me some free goodies! (don't judge)

Reason why I NEED this bike: I bought my first house last summer, which is much further from my workplace than I used to live (3km vs 12km). I used to walk to work, but now I'm a zombie-fied commuter either by bus (almost an hour in traffic) or by car (around half an hour in traffic, but gah! the pollution). I could commute by bike in a reasonable amount of time, but I don't own a bike and am currently house-poor (unforeseen renovations) and can't afford one.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Sorry Vanilla I changed my mind. If I win I will give the bike to Stephanie, but only if she will wear the shirt.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Having a bike would make it much easier to bicycle commute to work. Now that I live twice as far as I used to, I can't spend the time walking to work anymore (about 13 miles now.)

    ReplyDelete
  65. I would love to have this fabulous bike so that when someone refers to my "cross training", they are not commenting on my mood.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I don't deserve this bike. I just want a nice shiny new bike to replace my 1987 Trek road bike that I took apart one 4th of July thinking I could give it a tune up. Hasn't been the same since. Plus, with my 4th kid on the way I need a more efficient way to pull them in the bike trailer. The haunting chants of "can we ride to the park" are getting to me. Also, I turn 40 in a few months. It's snowing now and I have a speed workout to do. Oops [alt-tab]

    ReplyDelete
  67. I need this bike because mine was STOLEN, and I use my bike to do Earth Friendly Activities such as cycling to work. Why wouldn't you want to give the bike to a conscientious gal like myself??

    ReplyDelete
  68. Here's why I should get the bike:

I want to do my very first tri ever in August, but I don't have a bike and truthfully can't afford one on my meager journalist salary. So if you don't pick me I can't do it. (Are you feeling a little guilty yet?)

The other reason, maybe if I get this sweet new bike, I will become obsessed with riding it thus not running as often, thus losing my ability to chick people during my races. And that's one less embarrassing moment for males everywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Me .. me... pick me! Yellow is my signature color! I started doing sprint tri's last year and have since lost 40+ pounds. I just hit my one year anniversary of doing tri's and beat my last year's time by 16 minutes GEAUX ME! And just think how much faster I would be whizzing by on a sweet number like that bike! Gonna keep drinking the Lipton whether I win or not because you know a good southern girls gotta have her tea!
you can check out my tri progress at http://tryingntriing.extrapounds.com/

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  70. I don't need it.

I just want to ruin the odds for the rest.

    Neener, neener, neener.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I would give the bike to my wife so she can start training for a du-athalon or a tri-athalon. It would make a great Mother's day gift!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Where the hell did all these people come from?

They are reducing my chances at winning this 'random' wink wink draw. Let's add some fine print to the rules ... The contest is open to residents of the United States and Canada, who are blonde, female and are currently living in Canada.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I deserve the new bike because my current bike doesn't exist, it's like Wonder Woman's invisible plane... I look like this guy when I go out 'riding' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQL9o0asadU)

    ReplyDelete
  74. I never knew about alt+tab until this post. Thanks, half-fast!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Alas, "young white tea buds" Oh, how my loins ache and lips quiver for teh moist touch of "young white tea buds. Twenty-one virgins no longer hod repose for tender young buds have placed their beckoning call.

    It is I alone,
    who seeks to be freed,
    by riding naked (spiritually),
    on Liptons great steed

    To sweet bud bliss,
    I pedal in quest,
    On a bright yellow bike,
    and an orange safety vest

    With passion from hell,
    and buds in tow,
    I'll ring my pink bell,
    and off I'll go

P.s., I'm going to put some cards in the spokes to make the bike sound really cool, the little boy down the street stole my bike, and all my friend's dads have faster bicycles than me. >

    ReplyDelete
  76. I just said to my husband the other night, "I wish there was a way I could win a bike."

To give you a little of the sad back-story:
My brother was always the energetic, fit, and super-athletic (I was the lazy one). He played high school football and collegiate rugby. Despite all of this, he died of stomach cancer two weeks after his 26th birthday, leaving a wife, two young kids and a family of broken hearts.

(yes, I'm playing the "cancer card", but I think my brother would be proud!)

In his memory, I decided it was time to get off my butt and do something to help! I'm not a researcher or a doctor, but I can certainly fundraise! So I decided to run a marathon while raising money to fight cancer. I rallied the troops, and one marathon, 2 half marathons and several road races later, I have raised more than $50,000 for cancer research. But guess what, that still doesn't buy me a bike!

I'm ready for a triathlon, but I'm missing a bike. I decided I should wait for my economic stimulus money from the government, but this would make for a better story!

  77. I have a huge, massive, gigantoid crush on a professional bike repair guy (yes, seriously). If I won the bike, or more importantly, the $75 professional assembly payment, I would totally have an excuse to hang out with him at work.

    ReplyDelete
  78. If I win the bike, I will ride it from Minnesota to Colorado so I can thank you in person*.

*Or, I'll send you a really nice email.

  79. Mr. Vanilla Sir,

I don’t believe that I deserve the bike. BUT WAIT, there's more to my ENTRY.

I think Frayed Laces deserves it. When she was all broken & wrecked from her marathon (running it broken from 9 mile, I think it was & FINISHED). THE BOYFRIEND is who helped her & put up with her crabby, hormonal-ness. & ONLY let her go the ONE mile, AND took pictures her first run back. He's taken pretty good care of her & we all love Frayed Laces.

He didn't let her over do & now he's riding a rusty bike AND getting CHICKED (you could only imagine how hard that is on a guy’s ego).

And she needs to up her calcium (eating yogurt) & boyfriend could buy it for her if he had a new bike (he wouldn’t need to save for one); as we wouldn't want anymore fractured or broken Frayed Laces bones.

I think you should put Frayed Laces in the hat 3 times, once for her, once for the boyfriend & once for me.

I know you are the true deserver of this wonderfully shiny yellow bike; but this is like Christmas in May & you’re Santa. & I’m thinking Lipton may surprise you with something special!! (It’s only right)

You’ll be a very HOTT Santa who wants to put Frayed Laces in the hat 3 or more times.

**I could use the bike to Cross train, but I have my DH's that's collecting dust**

    OH & I won't talk about Detroit & Colorado in hockey anymore. . . . . .

  80. Even though I just bought a new bike, I have a tendancy to crash, and when I go down, I go down hard. It would be nice to have a back up so as not to interupt my otherwise impecable training regiment. And besides, yellow really is my color.

  81. When ever I think about cycling I remember this old Preparation H commercial which goes something like this: Two men stand in front of an exercise bike with a tiny triangle of a seat. The announcer dude says to the other guy (who looks pained to begin with), "Do you think you could ride this bike?" The other guy shifts his weight and a more pained look crosses his face,"Oh, no, not with my hemorrhoids."
Well, I don't think I have hemorrhoids, but I sure could use a new bike. You're site is great BTW- I shared the pick-up lines post with my running team here in NYC. They loved it! Keep it up! JP

  82. Wow!

And I thought I was your number one reader. I guess I am a bit slow at reading this post.... probably because I was trying to find a bike... :)

This has come at the right time. I was trying to find out how I was going to get a bike because I have really wanted to start riding back and forth to work to save on some gas and to help me to get ready to participate in my first Triathlon. This came at the right time because now I know how I am going to get that bike I have been looking for so long. :)

I have posted on Craigs list trying to find an inexpensive bike but to no avail. I would have liked to use my Federal Tax Stimulus check but that was spent the day I received it to pay off some debt.

I guess the best part - and the real reason I know this is meant to be for me is because right before I read this post I just responded to a comment on my blog http://blog.262quest.com from someone who was asking me to do a tri in October with them when they come to the United States. I told them, I would love to - but I don't have a bike yet.

OK, so here, let me give you my mailing address.......

Oh wait - I should give this to you offline huh :) I don't want all that hate mail from everyone else who actually thought they had a chance to win this bike!

  83. If I won this bike I would ride across the world and feed all the starving children. Well, maybe not all of them. Ok, I just want the bike...does that make me a bad person? If it does, than so be it. I'll still drink Lipton Tea because it's the best tasting, most refreshing tea ever. Hmmm...maybe I should have started off with that? :-)

    ReplyDelete
  84. If I won this bike I would give it to my girlfriend so we could go riding together. She has a schwinn we call the steel wonder. The day she moved into my small brooklyn apartment, I tried to put her bike on the new bike pole thing I got to not have it out on the street in Brooklyn, cause it would get stolen or just messed up. Since she doesn't ride it as much as I ride mine cause its so old and big, I wanted to put it onto the high part of the bike pole. I brought in a ladder to lift it, but it was still up over my head and that steel wonder thing weights more than little old me. But I tried, determined to impress her and welcome her in all the same. I wanted her to come home to find her bike in a place of exhaltation. But in my struggles the ladder tripped backwards and the bike and I fell back to the floor some 3-4 feet, landing on my back with the steel wonder atop me. I suffered a small concussion and a broken rib and when girlfriend came home there I was, bruised and battered with the steel wonder taking up its now permanant residence on the floor. I'd rather step over it every day than get crushed to death by it. But if I won this bike, she'd finally be able to ride with me without trying to haul the steel wonder through the hills of Brooklyn and it would finally give me back my bedroom-- the rib on the other hand... not much you can do there, right?

  85. I need this bike because everyone else in Germany has a bike. I'd use it to go to school, to soccer, to church, pretty much to anything and everything.

  86. As a stalker of your site, I think I deserve the pretty yellow bike! Stalking takes a lot out of you ~ waiting patiently (or not patiently) in my pj's day and night for you to post a new post with your wit and charm. Waiting for that tiny nugget of wisdom, that only you a seasoned runner can give, a novice stalker and runner. To be stalking your site means I am not training for my first marathon, no I am rather waiting for you to post something brilliant. The pressure is on man, I need something brilliant from you... I am waiting!? A new bike from the person I am stalking, well that would just be icing on the cake... I could tell all the people I know (none cuz I am a stalker) that I got the bike from my stalkee.... is that a word? (double bonus points, Nitmos?) See only a stalker would know that?!

    Em

  87. Remember those little license plates you had on your bike as a kid? If I win, I'll put one on the Fuji that says HALF-FAST (and send pics, of course)! Plus with a proper bike I would be able to sign up for a century ride with TNT in honor of my dad, who passed away last year from multiple myeloma (one of the types of cancer research supported by TNT).

    ReplyDelete
  88. Though my odds aren't good here, I deserve to win this bike because I didn't win the bike that Crabby and Merry had. That's not fair. I have to at least win one bike right?

    ReplyDelete
  89. I am neither a biker nor a tea drinker. But I would be if I were to win. OK, let's be honest... I still wouldn't drink tea. BUT I would finally enter that triathlon I've wanted to do but couldn't since I didn't have a bike... nor the ability to swim... hmm.

    ReplyDelete
  90. I deserve to win this bike because, hands-down, I think you, Vanilla, are a hilarious blogger who makes the blogosphere better! (Hey, a little flattery seems to go a long way here at Half-Fast!)

Plus... After living in Germany just 7 months, I love, love love! riding my bike to work. It was expensive to move here, and it's going to be expensive to move back when my contract is up. I just won't have the green to buy a bike. (Heck, the one I'm using here is my mother-in-law's old bike. I'm riding to work, a university campus, where I frequently run into my students at the bike rack. On my mother-in-law's bike.)

I'm going to need a fancy, schmancy new bike to ride to work when I move home. It's healthy AND it helps the environment and all that schtuff...

But why should I win the bike, if I won't be able to use it until I move back? Well, I'll tell you! My American running partner, Sarah Jo, is currently training for a triathlon. She'd proudly adopt my sweet new Fuji Crosstown 2.0 while I'm living the good life on my mother-in-law's bike here in Deutschland. Two for the price of one: You can't beat that!

  91. me me me I need a bike! Ironically, I just told my friend today at work that I need an awesome yellow Fuji, 5 1.5 liters of Lipton white tea and $75 for professional bike assembly. Then I clicked on your blog and there it was... then my boss walked by and I had to alt + tab. (thanks for the tip!).

  92. Um...it's a bike, I plan to ride it.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Posting on behalf of my wife who says she wants the new bike so she can get back into shape after her pregnancy, with this new bike she can ride around the neighborhood in style telling all about Lipton Tea! Plus she needs a new bike 'cause the old one is falling apart and I have not replaced it with a new shiny one yet.

  94. P.S. I just read that "legal residents of US and Canada" part. So I am sure it is important for you to know that, while I am currently residing in America, my legal residence is in a little one-horse town called Neosho, Missouri.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I need a bike so I can improve my aerobic capacity. My legs can't take the extra pounding if I increase my running mileage any more than the current 50-60.

And I haven't had a bike since I was eight; it was a red Kent.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Two reasons:
    1. I hear biking is easier than running. That is, three biking miles is supposed to equal one running mile. I LIKE EASY EXERCISE. Plus, how cool would it be if I were like "oh yeah I did a quick thirty miles yesterday." (I would be sure to keep my switch from running to biking a secret).

    2. If I win, I'll come up with a post about biking pickup lines. (Actually, I should probably do that anyway since you helped me land a cute guy with your running pickup lines.) But without a bike, I wouldn't have a chance to practice the biking pick up lines!

    ReplyDelete
  97. What better reason to delurk than to tell you how awesome you are? A contest for a bike...pfftt, that's a not-so-close second. :P Vanilla, you are the most rockin' running blogger around.

I would use the tealicious bike to commute to work, cross train, perhaps dabble in a tri, and most importantly laugh maniacally at the other cyclists that I see on my way. Because we all know while biking is fun; running is so much better.

While I'm at this schmooze of a post, I honestly love tea and drink an absolute insane amount so I actually like the fact that the bike matches my nutty personality. It also fits my bank account which is quite empty due to student loans.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Not a new reader, just a lurker in most cases.

I had a bike but since I hadn't ridden it in so long, I gave it to a friend of ours who was getting hit upon the head with bricks and mugged when he walked home from waiting tables at a mexican restaurant. No lie.

Of course, now that I've given it away, the urge to bike has hit me hard. It would be so wrong to become an indian giver, though; especially because one of my top 5 favorite bloggers is giving a bike away at the behest of Lipton.

Now just think of the sort of karma you'd be accumulating if you join my little bike-giving chain! You'd be practically karmically guaranteed to be offered your heart's desire from the next unsuspecting, brand-building, social marketing-savvy ubercorporation that comes to Half-Fast.

What a savant you are, Vanilla!

    ReplyDelete
  99. A free bike? That's Awesome.
But, my dumb question is, what to do with it? I suppose I could lend it to whoever my support crew for the day is, since I'd be running.

Yeah, and they could have a towline for uphills.

Dang, the picture doesn't look like a mountain bike. Guess that means someone will have to learn about cyclocross, since I prefer trails. But then I'll trip over some rut they leave in the dirt, break my ankle and won't be able to run. (And they'll need to sling my across the handlebars to carry me to the hospital.)

As cool as a new bike would be, sounds like it may make life difficult.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Because it would go sweet with my yellow jeep!

    ReplyDelete
  101. I deserve this bike because Im so stupid that I dont see a link to post a comment to win the bike!

    ReplyDelete
  102. Free as in beer? Who can't use a free bike? I mean you can't have enough bikes, ever...

    ReplyDelete
  103. 1) I shaved 10 seconds of my 5K.
    2) I'm getting a divorce, and I need him to wish he had that bike.

    That's pretty good I think.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I'd like to have a bike so I can cruise around town like all the cool cyclists in their oh-so-fashionable gear, and hold up traffic and leave runners like me in the dust kicked up by their shiny bright wheels!

    ReplyDelete
  105. I'm planning on doing a sprint triathlon at the end of the summer. Right now it's looking like I'm going to be doing it on a rusty old women's cut Huffy mountain bike.

Seriously I'm going to look bad doing that, I deserve the bike to prevent the sheer embarrassment of showing up on a Huffy.

Then again, it could be fun to do that too, so either way.

    ReplyDelete
  106. If it goes to me, it would be a win for all the old guys, who can't write worth a damn, can't run fast anymore, are back of the packers. Ouch! my joints are creaking just writing this !!!

    ReplyDelete
  107. I can't say I /need/ the bike, but as mentioned above, a girl's gotta cross-train!

Plus, then I could bike to work! And that would be better for the planet, as well as my quads...

    ReplyDelete
  108. I need it, I need it! I'm a runner with a fractured foot... which means for the time being, I can't be a runner. It's driving me nuts! A bike would help preserve my sanity while I can't run: definitely a worthy cause. :)

Like a bunch of other folks, above, I've also been toying with the triathlon idea... much more likely to happen if I had a bike! (And a healed foot, obvs... but hey, one thing at a time.) :)

    ReplyDelete
  109. Why I deserve this bike? Should I even explain that to you mortals?

Well, if I have to, I'll say that:
1- Because funny didn't exist before me.
2- Funny is my main name, not middle name or family name.
3- I don't know funny has to do with winning a bike, but I am too funny to ponder over it.
4- I blogged about here even if you don't deserve it:

Now send me an email to announce the good news to me!

  111. Why do I deserve this bike...humm...
    let's see!
    1) I am out of shape..I look like a pear
    2) I am out of shape...I want to look like a bannana
    3) I am out of shape and maybe this bike will help me
    Thanks!

  112. I'm not terribly witty or funny.

I'm not a very good runner either.

I'm not a good blogger, since I only lurk.

I figure I can ride a bike faster than I can run, though.

Plus, it's getting expensive to buy gas. I'd like to ride a bike to work.

    That's all. Thanks

  113. Alright, my boss calls me her baby genius, and I was resting on my (well-earned) laurels - but then a new woman at my consulting firm rod her bike for 80km. For charity. In the rain.

She may not be a baby genius, but that is pretty impressive. I need a shiny yellow bike so I can earn my edge back!

  114. I made a goal years ago of doing a triathlon before I graduated college. Just got back into running, but I need a new bike. I'm turning 32 in a few weeks, so I figure if I never do a triathlon I'll never actually graduate. Stupid goals.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Well I don't actually need the bike, as I have a relatively new Fuji Roubaix Pro...I know you are now impressed. But I intend to upgrade my wife's bike with this new bike. That way she has a chance to keep up with me on our rides (by that I mean hopefully I can cripple the bike so she doesn't smoke me).

  116. I would love to win a new bike! I haven't owned one since high school which is probably the last time I've been on a bike. Nowadays, I love running outside and in the last year or so, I've become a big fan of my weekly spinning class - would be nice to take the biking outside!

    ReplyDelete
  117. I deserve to win a bike because as a child, I used to ride across town with my Dad for Dairy Queen ice cream cones. I miss that. The ride, not the ice cream! The latter my hips don't need!

Besides I like shiny new things, ask my husband! I'll look so sexy on the bike, he'll be chasing me down the street!

It's bright yellow... I need this bike to remind me of what the sun looks like when we get fogged in all next winter. Cure SAD... pick me to win the bike!

And I will make the neighbors either insanely jealous or hysterical with laughter while they see me learn to ride again at a tottery age 51! On a very steep hill. I hereby promise I won't sue if I go SPLAT!

    ReplyDelete
  118. I need this bike, because it is shiny and yellow, my favorite color. Plus if i break another spoke on my current bike, i think i may throw it off a bridge.....

  119. Thanks, I'll take the bike, it'll look good hanging in the garage next to the other three I don't ride.
