Oops!... I Did It Again

Remember when Britney Spears used to be normal? Me neither.

What did I do again? I got up this morning at the butt crack of dawn and went for a 10 mile run. In case you're wondering what time the "butt crack of dawn" is, it's much earlier than the crack of dawn. For me it was 4:30 am. No, that's not a typo, I got up at 4:30 this morning and went running. I'm going to make an appointment to have a CAT scan in the near future because I think that something must be wrong with me in the head.

I had to change my route a little because when I came to the trail that I like to run on I discovered that it is not very well lit. I could barely even see the path let alone all the murderers and weirdos that I knew to be hiding behind every single bush, and tree. So I ended up sticking to the sidewalks with streetlamps until the sun finally got its lazy ass up at 5:30. I'm not used to being up before the sun and I know it's not used to seeing me first thing in the morning. I think it was confused at the sight of me, as it spent the rest of the morning hiding behind clouds, occasionally peeking between them to see if it could figure out who that crazy runner was. No way it could be Vanilla? Yes way!

In conclusion I don't much like getting up that early and I don't like running in the dark by myself, perhaps I'll take my dog with me sometime, but he can't handle 6 miles, much less 10. I DO however like not having to spend an hour and a half running in the evenings when I get home from work so I've got that going for me.

And yes, I am embarrassed by that post title. But no, I'm not sorry if that miserable song is now stuck in your head.

  1. The good news is that the murderers and weirdos are all in bed by 4:30 AM. At 2 AM you might have trouble.

And thank you for not posted a recent picture of Bratney.

  4. Cute dog! Shame about the one on your post.

I had a similar experience the other day - changed my route when it was too dark to see down the trail. Glad I did - the next day everyone I talked to about it said things like, "ooh, yeah, there are a bunch of weirdos down there at night"

    Yikes

  6. kudos to you for a 4.30am run.

the murderers and weirdos probably thought you had pulled a major crime and were running to get away.

    respect.

  7. You better get that scan scheduled ASAP! What is going on? Who am I going to have on my side in the morning run battle? Ugh...damn converts :P

  8. That's way early!
    10 miles WTG

Step on any slugs? [Maybe they're just a Northwest hazard.]

  9. I was up at 4AM this morning for my run, so I feel your pain. One benefit to rising at that hour, though . . . you get to witness the occasional sobriety test being done by the local P.D. (I like to yell 'Don't Trip!' while I'm driving by)

  10. Good job on the morning run! I am not a really big fan of running in total darkness either, but I figure if I can't see the weirdos and murderers than they can't see me either, so then we're just cool with each other because there is like that invisibility thing going on. Or something like that.

  11. You are right, that is WAY the CRACK O DAWN. Were you running a fever???

Great job having the motivation to do that.

Britney used to be normal? huh. missed that. It was a nice pic, she is starting to look a little worn :)

  15. I knew we'd make a morning person out of you :P 4:30am is a scary time. Did you bring your mp3 player/ipod? I refuse. I have to be prepared for when Michael Myers comes jumping out of the bushes with his knife LOL

  16. Marcy, I knew I could draw you out with a picture of Brit. And no, I didn't have my MP3, I wanted to hear every twig snap and every rustlin' in the bushes.

  17. oh jesus, 10 miles first thing upon waking? No way, man, I'd rather face the gang of murderers and weirdoes that come out at sundown (I think they're a little scarier, those crazy night owls) rather than take that particular challenge on.

  18. thanks for stopping by my blog. seems like you have joined marcy and i with the morning runs. let me know what the CAT scan reveals. down here in Florida the sun doesn't rise until almost 7am, so my full run is in darkness. I kind of like the silence - at least I say that until an evil guy jumps out of the bushes...

  19. lol...your post had my chuckling!

I tried a 4:30AM run a couple of weeks ago...I stepped outside, couldn't see anything, let alone the feet attached to the bottom of my legs (no street lamps in the country), so I went back inside, and slept another hour. I am sure all those murderers and weirdos hiding in the corn fields were very disappointed!

  20. What miserable song? 4:30 am is a great time for a run, but you do have to stick to lit streets so you can see where you're going. The cops in the town sure get to know you (that's a good thing, right?).

  22. Wow I'm like a 5:45 at the earliest runner.. .luckily due to proximity to work and being able to get here at 8:30ish, I can still get in 10 miles. CAT scan definitely in order for most of us runners.

  23. I personally try to respect dawn's privacy by avoiding intimate knowledge of her butt crack, but when I can't, it is usually because I've been up all night. This weekend we ran the ET Full Moon Midnight Half Marathon. I loved running in the middle of the night. I would definitely run this one again, as well as look for other midnight races. After the race there was a 2.5 hour bus ride back to Vegas, so we didn't get to bed until almost 8 a.m.

I did not love running with a headlamp, next time I'll just carry a flashlight. Speaking of weirdos, you should see the crazies that show up for a marathon near Area 51!

  24. I always say "the butt crack of dawn"! I love saying that. It's like my favorite saying! So, good job first of all for getting up at the butt crack of dawn, and second of all for using that fav phrase of mine!
